Cumulus Clouds and a Bright Blue Sky

I love a clear blue sky, but the sky always seems more interesting when you get some puffy, white cumulus clouds popping up all over. Here are two photos of what the sly looks like right now!

Rhododendron, Azaleas in Bloom

Over the last two weeks I’ve spent some time photographing the blooming rhododendron and azalea bushes in our yard. (I also threw in some pics of our flowering snowball bushes – even when it’s not winter here we have to have some snowballs around.) All those years of planting various flowering shrubs have paid off with some beautiful colors. My only disappointment is my “blue baron” rhododendron. It has struggled since I planted it several years ago and it never bloomed this year. It may not be happy with where I put it and I may attempt to transplant it. Here are a few of the photos of our rhododendron (dark purple, light purple, and hot pink), azalea (hot pink and white), the Chinese azalea (orange), and the snowballs (which are, of course, white!).

More Spring Color

The flowering trees are fully bloomed, and our pink and white dogwoods, apple trees, and other flowering trees are showing their full color. This is such a beautiful time of the year. The azaleas and rhododendrons are just getting started so we expect that once the trees lose their flowers, the flowering shrubs will be in full bloom. It’s the one reward we get for tolerating the lousy winters!

A Yellow-Rumped Warbler Stops By

I happened to be outside taking pictures of some of the beautiful flowering trees in the yard, and spotted a bird high up in the tree that looked different from our normal feathered visitors. I got out the long lens and took a few photos as it jumped around the tree. After a very close look at the photos, I believe this bird was a yellow-rumped warbler, the first I have ever seen. Here are a few photos, maybe some of my birding followers can confirm if my ID is correct. Granted, these pictures were enlarged quite a bit because the bird was very high up in the tree, but I think it is enough to make the ID.
