Blue Green Storm Clouds In Severe Thunderstorm

Some very strong thunderstorms with hail moving through northeast Ohio yesterday made for some interesting colored clouds. As the storm approached, some of the clouds had an eerie bluish green color. Here’s a photo – the color has not been altered!

Dunlin & Least Sandpipers at Mentor Marsh Wake Robin Trail

Here are some photos of a lone Dunlin, along with what I think are two Least Sandpipers, that we saw while walking the Wake Robin Trail in the Mentor Marsh on Sunday. They were camouflaged so well they were almost impossible to spot.

A Fogbow Over Cleveland’s Innerbelt Bridge

While recording a video from a traffic camera overlooking Cleveland’s Innerbelt Bridge (for a a time lapse video of a very foggy morning) I got an extra bonus. A fog bow appeared as the fog began to dissipate. Here’s a look!

The Female Red-Breasted Grosbeak

We had an influx of male red-breasted grosbeaks last week, and now the ladies are coming by for a snack at our feeder. Here’s a photo of a female red-breasted grosbeak that seemed very unafraid of me and of my camera.

Robin Eggs Waiting to Hatch

A robin is nesting in a rhododendron under our kitchen window. She left the nest for a few minutes and I decided to sneak a photo. In a week or so I hope to get photos of the newborns!

A Downy Woodpecker Visits

It’s been a birding bonanza lately, with many birds staying still for pictures. Usually the downy woodpeckers that visit our feeder are to skittish for photos, but I managed to catch a picture of one male downy who seemed almost friendly.

The Rose-Breasted Grosbeak Invasion Continues

Yeterday I posted a photo of a rose-breasted grosbeak that I had taken the day before. We had more of these lovely birds stop by yesterday and they were kind enough to continue to pose for the camera. The trees are just now sprouting tiny leaves, making it much easier to see, and photograph, these birds. Here’s another photo!

Baltimore Orioles at Veterans Park

There was a nice crowd of Baltimore Orioles at Veterans Park in Mentor yesterday. They were quite vocal and remained high in the trees while I was nearby. Still, I managed to get a photo of one amid all the tree branches.
