Cumulonimbus Cloud Drapes Over Headlands Beach

Last weekend we visited Mentor Headlands Beach State Park to watch the sun set over Lake Erie. When we got there, we were surprised to see the setting sun being obscured by some clouds. A large string of thunderstorms had formed across the Lake and were heading for the eastern half of the Lake Erie shore. The clouds we were seeing were from the top of the cumulonimbus clouds that were many miles away, about halfway across the Lake. Here’s a photo taken from Headlands Beach, as the edge of the storm stretched toward the shore.   (Click on the image for a larger view.)
