Mossy Creek Lives Up To Its Name

We made a trip to Harrisonburg, Virginia to fly fish the nearby Mossy Creek. Mossy Creek certainly lives up to its name, the clear spring creek waters full of undulating moss. The day we arrived, we had a short time in the afternoon for my husband to fly fish the public stretch of the creek in Bridgewater. Sadly, the next morning we were inundated with 3 inches of rain and the creek quickly turned muddy. This sometimes does bring out the big fish, and my husband briefly had on the hook a monster rainbow trout. But as the rain progressed the waters simply became too muddy to fish. Still, we had a great - albeit wet - time! Here are photos and a short video.

Autumn Color at Mohican State Park

My husband enjoys fly fishing in the Clear Fork River at Mohican State Park in Loudonville Ohio, so we try to make the trip once or twice a year. This year, we hit the fall color at its peak. The weather was spectacular with warmer than normal temps. The downside: it was very windy and as the morning progressed, the river began to fill with fallen leaves, making it hard for the fish to even see the flies. The water level was also very low, making for few deep pools for the fish. My husband did catch one small largemouth bass, however. While his fishing day wasn’t one of his best, I had a wonderful time photographing the bold fall colors. Here are some photos and a video - enjoy! A Hot, Humid Fly Fishing Trip

Almost two weeks ago my husband and I took a trip to Virginia so he could enjoy some fly fishing. The temperatures were in the low 90s and the humidity levels were high, and the fish were not biting. He managed to catch one nice rainbow trout and I managed to get some nice photos. Despite the uncomfortable weather, we had a wonderful time on a lovely trout stream located on a dairy farm. Here are a few photos.

Fly Fishing & Scenic Beauty

Earlier this week, we took a trip to Virginia so my husband could do some fly fishing. The day of fishing was guided by Brian Trow of Mossy Creek Fly Fishing, located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We fished in the private waters of Smith Creek at the lovely Susie Q Farms. Brian is an excellent guide and knows the waters well so my husband caught many fish. I was thrilled at the beauty of the area around the creek, which was bursting with the color from flowering trees and wildflowers, plus the soft greens from leaves emerging on the trees. Here are some photos of the scenery and a short fishing video. (Click on any image for a larger view.)

Fly Fishing in Virginia

Last week, we had a chance to get away to Virginia for some fly fishing in the private waters of Smith Creek at Susie Q Farm in Virginia. The fishing was guided by Colby Trow of Mossy Creek Fly Fishing, located in Harrisonburg, Virginia.  The weather was cloudy and slightly cool, but those conditions really brought out the rainbow trout. My husband caught so many rainbows that it was as if the fish were happy to be hooked. While he was busy catching fish, I was taking some photos of the lovely, peaceful surroundings.  Here are a few of those photos.  (Click on any image for a larger view.)

And Now for Something Completely Different – Fly Fishing!

Regular visitors to my blog are accustomed to seeing photos of landscapes, birds, and weather. This time I’m featuring something different: fly fishing! Last weekend, we got away from fishing the usual places in northeast Ohio and traveled to the private waters of Smith Creek at Susie Q Farm in Virginia. The fishing was guided by Brian Trow of Mossy Creek Fly Fishing, located in Harrisonburg, Virginia. I swear that Brian has x-ray vision as he is able to see fish that are invisible to most. As a fly fishing teacher, he has amazing patience along with a high energy level, which makes the fishing experience enjoyable even for someone like me who is just an observer. The waters of Smith Creek were very productive that day and my husband caught several fish. Sadly, I wasn’t around to photograph all of them as I was sometimes distracted by the lovely surroundings - or giant spiders (photo below). Here are a few photos (click on any photo to access the gallery).
